Parts of the East Suffolk coast are eroding at an unprecedented rate.
Nereus, otherwise known as the Old Man of the Sea, was the Greek mythological father of fifty Nereids. These sea goddesses were kind and beautiful protectors of those in, and on, the sea.
In an ironic and tragic twist of fate, my Nereids are clothed in debris - geotextiles and wire that have fallen onto the beach as Pakefield’s cliff erodes. Every Nereid in this series is on a hand stitched photograph of Pakefield beach; adorned with beach debris and smashed sea glass.

Actaea is the Nereid of the sea shore.

Sweet Melita is the Nereid personification of calm seas.
